Application deadlines for the following two grants fall early in the new financial year. One is is a national program while the other is open to Queensland-based enterprises.
Export Market Development Grants (EDMG)
Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program aims to help Australian businesses expand to international markets. These grants are designed to encourage small to medium enterprises to market and promote their goods and services globally.
Reforms to the EMDG in 2021 mean that you can apply once for a grant of 2 or 3 years and, also know how much funding you will receive before you spend.
There are 3 different grants available:
Tier 1: Ready to export
For eligible SME exporters who:
- are ready to export in the grant year
- have not exported before
- have appropriate skills in marketing eligible products in a foreign country.
Grants agreements are offered for up to 2 years.
Tier 2: Exporting and expanding
For eligible SME exporters who are:
- exporting eligible products
- seeking to expand export promotion activity for eligible products.
Grant agreements are for up to 3 years.

Tier 3: Exporting, expanding and strategic shift
For eligible SME exporters who are:
- exporting eligible products
- seeking to expand export promotion activity
- ready to make a strategic shift in the marketing of eligible products in a foreign country.
Grant agreements are for up to 3 years.

For promotional activities from 1 July 2021 onwards, applications for the EMDG program opens next week on 6 July 2022. Applications will be open for 6 weeks, and closes at 4:00 pm AEST on 17 August 2022.
Ignite Ideas Fund Round 9
The Ignite Ideas Fund supports Queensland based small to medium businesses that have high-growth potential to undertake commercialisation projects aiming to strengthen key industries in Queensland and create new jobs.
Two tiers:
Tier 1: Up to $100,000 (excluding GST) for projects of up to 12 months duration.
If applying for Tier 1, the applicant organisation and/or related parties must:
- not have received an Ignite Ideas Fund grant previously
- make a cash contribution to the project that is at least equal to 20% of the value of funding sought.
Tier 2: Greater than $100,000 and up to $200,000 (excluding GST) for projects of up to 24 months duration.
If applying for Tier 2, the applicant organisation and/or related parties must:
- not have received an Ignite Ideas Fund tier 2 grant previously
- not be applying for a product or service that has previously received Ignite Ideas funding
- have successfully completed any project funded under tier 1 of the Ignite Ideas Fund (if relevant)
- make a cash contribution to the project that is at least equal to the amount of funding sought
Expression of interest applications will close at 10 am (AEST) on Thursday 7 July 2022.
