Biography

Andy possesses extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications across a range of technical disciplines. His areas of specialization include medical devices, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, and general engineering. Andy represents both local and international companies, providing tailored patent services across diverse technologies. 

Throughout his career, Andy has contributed to a broad spectrum of patent-related projects. This includes work on medical devices, traditional materials and chemical technologies, particularly within the mining and metallurgy industries, as well as participation in cutting-edge fields such as nanotechnology and biomedical devices. 

Andy delivers commercially focused advice to a variety of organizations, including universities in Australia, Europe, and the United States. His work encompasses all aspects of patent filing strategies, freedom-to-operate opinions, infringement and validity assessments, due diligence, and licensing issues. He has also successfully guided companies through funding rounds, acquisitions, public listings, and the strategic leveraging of patent portfolios. 

In the past five years, many of Andy’s clients have relied on his expertise for high-value transactions exceeding $200 million. These have included public listings of Australian start-ups and mid-sized innovative companies, as well as acquisitions by larger global corporations and venture capital funds from the USA and Europe. Andy’s reputation for IP strategy is international, and he is among the few Australian Patent Attorneys regularly ranked in the top 300 IP Strategists by IAM for the past four years. 

Andy is frequently called upon to represent clients in patent opposition and re-examination proceedings. His advocacy skills are recognized in both defending and opposing Australian patents, making him a sought-after advisor for complex patent disputes and negotiations.
