Biography

Benjamin has experience in patent drafting, filing and prosecuting Australian and foreign patent applications freedom to operate advice and litigation support. He is a registered Patent Attorney in Australia and New Zealand and a registered Trade Marks Attorney in Australia.

Benjamin graduated from La Trobe University with a Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Benjamin then went on to complete an honours year in Medicinal Chemistry focusing on the synthesis of novel small molecule inhibitors of PI3 Kinase family enzymes for which he was awarded the Max O’Connor Honours Year Prize in Chemistry. Benjamin then completed his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

This research focused on the synthesis and development of novel small molecule inhibitors of the MYST3 protein, known to control epigenetic pathways governing cancer tumour growth and progression. This resulted in the development of a number of early stage drug-like molecules which were subsequently progressed to early stage animal studies. Benjamin has also acted as an in-house patent and trade mark attorney and intellectual property manager at one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes. Benjamin’s experience includes identifying, capturing, and protecting IP across a range of technologies fields, assessment of invention disclosures, developing appropriate IP protection strategies and providing strategic advice thereon.
