Michael Buck registered as an Australian patent and trade mark attorney in 1998. He holds degrees in Engineering (Electrical) and Arts (Philosophy & Mathematics) from The University of Queensland and a Masters of Legal Studies (IP) from the University of Technology Sydney.

After graduation Michael initially worked as a computer programmer on parametric CAD applications before taking a position with an electronic communications engineering company.

In the period 1994 to 1996 Michael was sole patents officer with international medical electronics company, Cochlear Limited. Subsequently he undertook studies for registration as a patent and trade mark attorney during three years of employment with Watermark patent and trade mark attorneys in their Sydney office.

Michael is one of a very small number of Australian patent attorneys to have passed all of the final Patent Attorney Standards Board admission examinations simultaneously and on first attempt.

From 2001 to 2008, Michael was a partner of the Brisbane firm of Eagar & Buck.

Michael’s clients enjoy the benefit of his experience, gained from serving a wide variety of clients ranging from individuals and small businesses to University commercialization departments and multinational corporations.

Michael and his team have taken my prototype from scratch to patent in a most enjoyable way. Everyone I have dealt with at MBIP has been impressive and I have NO complaints despite this being a working relationship of about 6 years now. I thank Michael for his vast experience and his ability to construct a wonderful team to help me through the minefield that patenting is”. – Robert Hayes
